How to Measure Yourself Before Ordering China Clothing

A China clothing order fails in the tape more often than in the freight. You can pay naira on ShopFluxx, wait 2 to 4 weeks, and still open a dress that is honest to the listing and wrong for your body, because the listing was centimetres and you sent a letter. This is the measurement ritual: how to take numbers in Nigeria before you tap Paystack or paste a 1688 URL. It will not make a liar listing true. It will stop the most expensive class of “it no fit.”

Tape, mirror, and a helper

Use a soft tape, the kind a tailor uses, not a builder’s metal tape that fights curves. Wear the bra or shapewear you will wear with the garment. Stand straight, feet together, arms down. A helper is better than a selfie stick for bust and hip. If you are alone, use a mirror and accept that bust will be the sloppy number. Redo it twice. If the two tries differ by more than 2cm, try a third and keep the middle.

Write the date on the note. Bodies change. A number from last Christmas is not a number for a November 1688 link. Do not measure over a puffy hoodie and call it a body measurement. Do not suck in unless you plan to suck in at the owambe.

Where to measure

Four numbers for most dresses and sets. Add shoulder and inseam when the chart uses them.

• Bust or chest: fullest point, tape parallel to the floor, not riding up in the back.
• Waist: where the garment will sit. High-waist trousers need the high waist, not the navel you prefer in a mirror.
• Hip: fullest point including seat. This is where Nigerian bodies and China wovens often disagree.
• Length: follow the chart’s start point. Shoulder-to-hem is not the same as nape-to-hem. If the 1688 image shows a flat garment length, that is a garment number, not your torso.

For shirts and blazers, shoulder width (seam to seam on a shirt that fits, or acromion to acromion on the body) saves a week-4 fight. For palazzo and trousers, inseam if printed, otherwise outseam, and say which you used. Shoes are a different tape (foot length in mm). Do not put clothing letters on sneakers. Shoes: Shoes. Ease vs body measure

Your body is not the garment. Ease is the gap. Bodycon may be body plus 2 to 4cm in the bust. A shirt may be plus 8 to 12cm. A 1688 chart that shows “bust 96” on a flat lay doubled is a garment bust of 96cm. If your body is 96cm and the fabric has no spandex, that dress is a second skin or a refusal to zip.

Write both when you are unsure: “body bust 94cm, I want normal ease, not skin tight.” If you only send 94, we may match a 94 garment and you will hate it. Photos that help QC

Photos of you in a fitted top, side and front, with the tape visible, help only if we asked or if the 1688 cut is unusual (asymmetric, corset, mermaid). Do not send nude photos. Do not send a glamour shoot. Send the 1688 size-chart image in Chinese, plus your four numbers in text.

A photo of a garment you already own that fits, laid flat with tape across bust, can decode a factory chart that uses odd start points. Label it “this fits me, garment bust X cm.” That is more useful than “I wear M at Shoprite.”

What still can be wrong after measuring

The listing can lie. The seller can send a different batch. Shoulder slope, bust position, and fabric thickness will not show on four numbers. A 165/88A tag is height and bust, not hip. Plus grades on 1688 may clear bust and miss hip on a woven skirt.

Do the ritual once and keep a note on your phone: date, bust, waist, hip, height, shoulder, the bra you used. Reuse it for catalog and 1688. Update it when the number moves. Send the note in the same packet as the URL so support does not hunt three chats.

If you are ordering for someone else (a sister, a customer), measure them or get their note. Guessing from a photo is how you fund freight for a gift that cannot zip. Resellers who skip the tape and blame China in week 4 are not doing QC. They skipped the only free control they had in Nigeria.
