Catalog vs 1688 Link: Which ShopFluxx Path Fits Your Order
On this page
ShopFluxx has two doors into the same China-to-Nigeria pipeline. One is the catalog on Shop: goods already listed in naira. The other is Shop from 1688: you send a listing URL, we quote in naira, we buy if the link is usable. Both doors share Paystack, a Lagos hub, and a 2 to 4 week freight window. They do not share the same clock, the same control, or the same homework.
People treat the two doors as competitors. They are not. The catalog exists so you do not have to become a 1688 operator for a tote that is already on the site. The link path exists so the catalog does not pretend it contains every factory in Yiwu. Pick with a decision tree, not with whichever page loaded first.
Process context lives on How It Works. This article is only the fork.
When the catalog is faster
Use the catalog when the item you want is already a ShopFluxx product. You can see the photo set the store is willing to stand behind, a naira price, and a lead time that matches Delivery. Checkout is the normal cart. You are not waiting on a human to read a Chinese size table before you can pay.
Catalog is faster in attention, not in physics. The parcel still travels China to Nigeria on the same 2 to 4 week class of freight. What you skip is: hunting 1688, translating MOQ, arguing with a seller about a color name, and sitting on a quote that expires while you screenshot relatives for approval.
Catalog is also the right door when you need a category the store actually stocks. Bags, shoes, clothing, hair extensions, gym wear, travel luggage, and jewelry/accessories are live lanes. If you are buying a bag, start in Bags before you paste a random 1688 shop. If clothing, start in Clothing. Phone accessories is not a live lane. Do not invent catalog items there.
Catalog wins when you are ordering for yourself and you want fewer variables. Size can still be wrong. Color can still shift in Lagos daylight. Those are product risks, not sourcing-process risks. You are not also betting that you copied the correct SKU from a wholesale table.
Catalog wins for gifts with a date only if the date is far enough. Christmas, Valentine, Eid: count back 2 to 4 weeks plus a buffer. The catalog cannot teleport. It can only avoid the extra days a 1688 negotiation sometimes adds in week 1.
When a 1688 link is the point
Use a 1688 link when the catalog does not have the variant, the factory, or the quantity logic you need. Examples that are real, not hypothetical mall copy:
- A clothing factory’s lookbook piece in a fabric the catalog does not carry.
- A bag silhouette you saw on 1688 that is not in Bags this month.
- A small reseller test: three colorways from one seller, mixed sizes, still under a sane MOQ.
- Hair that must match a specific length and density the catalog wig set does not list.
1688 is a China wholesale surface. Prices are in yuan. Shipping on the listing is China domestic, not Nigeria. Language is Chinese. That is the point. You are looking at the same class of listing a Guangzhou buyer sees, then asking ShopFluxx to be the naira front door and the freight. You are not supposed to check out on 1688 from a Nigerian card. If you want that failure mode explained, it is a later post. Here, assume the link is a sourcing request.
A link is the point only if you can specify the variant. Color, size, SKU row, quantity. A homepage URL for a 1688 store is not an order. A live-stream screenshot with no price table is not an order. How to send a usable request is How to Send a 1688 Link to ShopFluxx. How 1688 works at all from Nigeria is How to Buy from 1688 When You Live in Nigeria.
We will refuse some links. Replica language, medical claims, hazardous batteries we will not import, or a listing so thin we cannot QC: those come back as a no, not as a surprise parcel. A no is cheaper than a seizure or a chargeback.
Time, price, and control
Time: catalog checkout can happen in one sitting. A 1688 quote needs ShopFluxx to read the listing, confirm stock, and sometimes message the seller. That can be hours or a couple of working days, not weeks, but it is not instant. After payment, both paths enter the same freight physics. Do not buy a 1688 link on 10 December and expect it to beat a catalog item paid on 10 December. The link often starts later.
Price: 1688 yuan can look like a steal. It is one line. China local delivery, international freight, FX into naira, handling, and last mile still exist. Catalog naira is a store price that already accepted those facts. Sometimes the catalog is cheaper in landed naira because we bought better, or because your 1688 seller’s “cheap” SKU has a nasty domestic shipping add-on. Sometimes the link wins on a factory-direct variant we do not stock. Compare quotes, not screenshots of yuan.
Control: catalog control is the product page. What you see is what we intend to pick. Link control is your notes plus our QC against the listing. You get more choice and more ways to specify the wrong SKU. If you send “black dress, any,” you will not like the outcome. If you send the URL, the SKU row, a circled size table, and a note that Lagos heat means you want the unlined version, control goes up.
A simple grid:
| Question | Catalog | 1688 link |
|---|---|---|
| Pay in naira on ShopFluxx? | Yes, cart | Yes, after quote |
| Need a usable URL and variant notes? | No | Yes |
| Freight class | 2 to 4 weeks typical | Same class, often starts later |
| Best for | In-stock categories, fewer variables | Missing variants, factory hunts, small mixed lots |
| We may refuse | Out of stock, restricted types | Replica, unsafe, vague, or unlistable goods |
What you must send with a link
Minimum packet:
- The listing URL, not the 1688 homepage, not a search results page.
- The exact variant: color name as shown, size as shown, quantity.
- A screenshot of the price table and the selected SKU, because translation will lie.
- Your body measurements in cm for clothing, or foot length in mm for shoes, even if the listing shows S/M/L.
- Anything we must not substitute (no “similar fabric”).
Send that through the 1688 page or Contact. Do not send a 1688 password. Link buying does not need your account. If an “agent” asks for the login, that is a different, worse product. We will publish a dedicated no on that later. For now: URL plus notes.
If the catalog already has a close twin, say so. We would rather sell you the catalog SKU than fight MOQ on a near duplicate. That is not upselling. It is how you stop paying freight on an experiment the store already ran.
Decision checklist
Work top to bottom. Stop at the first yes that fits.
- Is the item on Shop in a live category, in the color and size you need? Use the catalog.
- Is it Phone Accessories or another empty shelf? Do not pretend it is catalog. Ask Contact whether a link is even allowed.
- Do you need a factory variant, mixed lot, or a look the catalog does not carry? Prepare a 1688 packet.
- Is the listing replica, medical, or a battery-heavy gadget we typically refuse? Do not send it hoping we will “just try.”
- Is your event inside two weeks? Neither door will save you. Buy local or change the date.
- Are you still unsure after that? Message support with the catalog URL and the 1688 URL together. Ask which door they would take for this SKU. That question is allowed. “Please check out on 1688 for me with my card” is not a ShopFluxx service.
Protect both money pages: How It Works keeps the overall buy-from-China process. Shop from 1688 keeps link education. This post exists so those two URLs do not cannibalize each other with the same paragraph. You now have a fork you can reuse on every order.

FAQ
Can I mix a catalog item and a 1688 link in one checkout?
Ask Contact. Consolidation is possible in principle and messy in practice if one SKU is slow. A later guide covers the combine question. Until then, do not assume one cart automatically waits for a custom buy.
Which path is cheaper?
Neither, as a rule. Compare the catalog naira price to a 1688 naira quote that includes freight. Yuan screenshots are not quotes.
Which path is safer?
Catalog has fewer specification failures. Links have more choice. Safety against WhatsApp fraud is the store checkout on either path, not the China site you browsed.
Do I still wait 2 to 4 weeks on catalog?
Yes. Faster means less chatting before payment, not air-teleport from Guangdong to Lekki.
What if my 1688 link goes out of stock after I pay?
Support will say so. Options are a substitute you approve, a different door, or a refund path per FAQ. Do not invent a replacement SKU in isolation.
Where do I start if I have never imported?
Catalog first. Learn the wait. Then use 1688 for gaps. How It Works, then this checklist, then the send-link SOP if you still need a factory page.
